HOW TO HELP YOUR PRESCHOOLER LEARN TO READ

Teaching a child to love reading is a process that can start long before he or she knows an 'A' from a 'Z'. It is more important to teach your preschooler to love books and stories. Here are few ways to nurture such a love.

1

.

Choose the right kind of books :
Words are the main attraction for preschoolers. Choose books with clear bright realistic but colourful illustration. They should be short and simple.
2.

Use books to bond :
A cuddly reading time can be a very nice experience for both you and your child. Make reading time special for you and your child.

3.

Be repetitive :
Toddlers love to hear the same story over and over again. You may be surprised to find that after some time your toddler would know the story by heart.

4.

Be creative :
Pick out books which have a lot of pictures and illustration. Discuss the picture and explain how it relates to the story.

5.

Read with expression :
No one likes to listen to a monotone. Make animal noise, be loud and soft as required in the story.

6.

Read every where you go :
Reading is an important part of life. On the road show him the placard, read the store signs, menus, everything you see.

7.

Be a good example :
Your child wants to imitate you and be like you. Read around your child. Children of readers are much more likely to end up readers themselves.

8.

Chose books that interest your child :
Introduce books that interest your child be it subject on cars, animal nursery rhymes.
